When Christians claim that God created our Universe and all living beings, a logical question arises: Who created God? Everything that we look at in this world is not becoming more perfect, as evolutionists claim, but decaying. For example, the laws of science support the fact that the sun is running out of power or fuel. It cannot exist forever. This means that everything in this world and in the entire Universe had a beginning. So what was that beginning?
At the very beginning of the Bible, we read: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1), which implies the beginning of the universe, but not the beginning of the existence of God. So, by claiming that God is eternal, we are thus claiming that God exists outside of time. Eternity has no beginning or end. It was when God created the universe time came into being. He knows everything, since there is no one above Him, which, in turn, tells us that He is Omniscient or All-Knowing. Nothing is hidden from Him. His light of holiness permeates absolutely everything. King David of Israel once wrote about this: “You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it. Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.” (Ps. 139:2-12).
So, based on what the Bible says, is it possible to scientifically approach such a concept as eternity? Is it possible to see the hand of the Almighty Creator in all this?
Since God is Omniscient, the trace of the Supreme Intelligence, which thought over, designed and put everything in order, will certainly be visible in the creation. There must be much evidence for this. Having discovered the tools of labor that belonged to a man of the Ancient World, we immediately come to the logical conclusion that someone with intelligence must have invented it. And, in the same way, considering skyscrapers, cars, airplanes and other inventions of mankind, no one would have thought that all this was formed by itself by coincidence of random circumstances, as a result of some kind of explosion. However, why are so many people with university degrees claiming otherwise? One scientist said, “If everything in this world happened by chance, it is tantamount to the fact that somehow a pile of iron gathered in one place, put itself in a bag, was somehow shaken well, and all of a sudden a Boeing jet flew out of there.” This is unlikely. It speaks of the impossibility of the chances of such a scenario of the formation of our world. Also, no one would ever think that it took millions, or even billions of years to invent technical innovations. Looking at inventions, we realize that intelligence had to be involved in their design, be it computers, houses, kitchen equipment, etc. It also does not fit the idea that over time the metal itself acquired the streamlined shape of an aircraft. So why, considering the design of creation, do so many resist in their hearts to accept the Creator?
This is the exact answer to the question that has tormented more than one generation: Is there a meaning to life? If people invent new things, they have a purpose for that, which means, seeing design in all creation, we come to the logical conclusion that everything that exists has meaning, since the One who conceived the creation also conceived its purpose. However, today most of the leading scientists in the world adhere to the belief (this is a belief that is not based on scientific facts, and, as a consequence, is a religious view) that all plants and living things are the product of a long evolutionary process, and not God the Creator. But we will see further that such a view does not have solid ground, and in the end, is untenable.
The most ardent evolutionists argue that the human brain is the most complex and orderly organized matter in the entire universe, even more complex than any computer invented. It would be logical to assume that the brain is the product of the invention of the Supreme Intelligence, just as a person with his intelligence is the inventor of the computer. Therefore, realizing the thoughtfulness of creation, many scientists cannot but recognize the Creator. However, they “suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, … but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man …” (Rom. 1:18-23). Yes, today, most of the modern scientific world worships a “corruptible (mortal) man” with his limited knowledge, and more often than not, even illogical conclusions. This proves once again that possession of a scientific degree does not make a person wise, reasonable, logical, and intelligent. Jesus Himself, in prayer to the Heavenly Father, said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.” (Luke 10:21). Can you imagine that even infants, i.e. children can understand this? Therefore, I do not understand parents who neglect the spiritual education of their children, referring to psychologists who state that it’s not the right time for them or they will not be able to understand the truth. Then, first of all, it is worth asking the question: do we, adults, understand this? “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty” (1 Cor. 1:27). “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”” (1 Cor. 3:19).
So, the entire creation that we are considering, testifies to us about the originality, ingenuity and skill of the Supreme Intelligence, which contradicts the idea of the random chance of the formation of the universe. Against the background of the complex molecular structures of living organisms, our human inventions even look somehow primitive and awkward. The biological design of the Creator is irrefutable proof of this. When you look at the beauty of God’s creation, even the most ardent atheist and evolutionary scientists, like Dr. Richard Dawkins, admit that such a design could not be a product of chance. So what can be put in place of the random chance? Or is it better to ask Whom? With all this, Richard Dawkins still tries with all his might to reject the idea of a Creator God. And why? Because Mr. Dawkins attributes this design to what he calls “blind physical forces” and Natural Selection processes. Why are such forces of physics blind? Because they are unknown to him. This means that his reasoning is not based on fact, but on faith. This is his religion. Everyone chooses what to believe in, but there is only one truth and it is unchanging, just like God the Creator, revealing it to people. However, Richard Dawkins states that if you look at earlier simple forms of organisms, you can agree with the random chance of their formation, and what we have today is the final product of Natural Selection. Thus, he argues that natural selection and mutation together are the very mechanisms of the evolutionary process. In other words, evolution itself is that “designer”.
Can natural selection produce design? First of all, we need to look at the fact that life is built on information. An enormous amount of information is contained in the heredity molecule known as DNA, which makes up the genes of any organism. Therefore, if natural selection and mutation are the main mechanisms of the evolutionary process, it is necessary to prove that these processes produce information responsible for the apparent design of any living thing. Knowing the simple foundations of biology, it can be recognized that natural selection is a logical process that we observe today. However, natural selection acts according to the information already contained in the genes – it does not produce new information. This confirms the statement of the Bible about the beginning of creation that God created various creatures and plants according to their kind, in order to reproduce according to their kind (or species). That is, wolves, coyotes, dingos, collies, etc. are all types of dogs. At the same time, there is no new information in the genes for one kind to evolve into a completely different one. This is also not confirmed by numerous discovered fossils. It is for this reason that modern evolutionary scientists have a huge problem in their theory – the missing transitional link in the evolutionary chain of evolvement, which, in turn, makes this theory untenable. Seeing illustrations still in school textbooks how an ape, after several stages, turns into a human being, you come to the only conclusion that all this is nothing more than a product of human imagination, which means that it cannot be called science.
It is true that we observe a large variety within the same kind and see the results of natural selection, which indicates micro-change (or say micro-evolution, and not the evolvement of a kind into a different one, as macro-evolution claims). And the genes of heredity confirm such changes within the dog kind. However, DNA information indicates changes in connection with natural selection within the same kind (species) and testifies of one common ancestor – the dog. DNA does not confirm a change from one kind to another with completely new information.
Thus, evolution by natural selection is analogous to solving mathematical problems without the participation of intelligence, which is impossible. However, evolutionists argue that mutations somehow bring in new information, which stimulates further natural selection. The next question is brewing: can mutations produce new information? Many even evolutionary scientists would agree today that this is impossible. Mutations do not increase genetic information, but decrease it due to functional impairment for a number of reasons. The main biological difference between humans and bacteria lies in the genetic information they contain. The human genome contains more information than the bacterial one. Information cannot be increased by mutations that lose or reduce it. Therefore, mutations cannot be the cause of the mechanism of the evolutionary process. In the scientific world, not a single case of a mutation that adds information to the genome is known. And this refutes the very macro-evolutionary process with the help of millions of mutations. Mutations can only cause changes in existing genetic information, without adding anything. In a nutshell, mutations do not create new patterns for new functions or, even more so, new organs.
We come to another conclusion that if natural selection and mutations are excluded as mechanisms for the production of information and the design of living systems, then it remains to recognize again that everything came into being by God the Creator.
So, design implies a Designer. The only alternative to the random chance is the Supreme Intelligence Design. In this case, the first lines of the Bible do not sound mythologically, but scientifically, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). And in another place of Scripture it says: “For by Him (i.e., by Jesus Christ, making this Person different from all other religions) all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.” (Col. 1:16).
Let’s imagine this illustration: You are flying in an airplane, which is very complex and consists of 6 million small parts, but one part of it cannot fly by itself. This means that such an invention must be created in conjunction with all the involved functions necessary for flight, which indicates the impossibility of changing a human from a bacterium into who he is. The entire creation had to be created with all vital systems at once.
Simple biochemical mechanisms take place in the cell that contribute to the functioning of the whole organism. The cell is able to perceive light and convert it into electrical impulses. This process is far from simple. This complex process involves numerous components that must be in the right place and at the right time, otherwise such a seemingly simple process could not be possible. In other words, everything had to be created from the very beginning in such a way that it would function at a time. It could not take millions of years of evolutionary process, but instant creation. Therefore, evolution from chemicals into a living being is impossible. Thus, simple cellular organisms, in fact, could no longer be simple from the beginning and cannot be used as the basis for the emergence of all living organisms. I still remember from the school curriculum in biology, as we called such organisms in the superlative degree – the simplest. Such scientific discoveries about the complexity of the “simplest” ones are a shock to contemporary evolutionists, since they testify to the complexity, and therefore it tells us about the design by the Supreme Intelligence, and not the result of simple natural laws.
From a killed fly, even if it contains all the substances necessary for life, there will be no sense. It is killed and this is the end. It’s dead, regardless of all the necessary set of chemical elements. Only God gives life. The more we study a living organism, the more we understand how complex it is. Life does not arise by itself. Life requires not only a source of information, but also the complexity of simultaneous biochemical processes necessary at its very inception.
There are trillions of cells in the human body. Only one cell contains such an amount of information in its genes that it would be enough to write at least a thousand books of 500 pages each. Where did all this information come from?
Just picture that the students were asked, with their eyes closed, from all the mixed letters of the alphabet to pull out the ones they needed to make a certain word, and then sentences that would make sense, and, in the end, write and publish an entire encyclopedia. Is it possible at all? And we are talking about the genetic information of just one cell of the human body. In doing so, evolutionists are trying to make us believe that there was no need to use intelligence but a random chance carried out evolution. Somehow, the molecules came together in the right order to form complex structures like DNA, and then life appeared. Would you believe in such a random chance? You would think I was crazy, right? Do you understand why the wise of this world have become foolish? DNA should have already existed in its original form with genetic information that would facilitate life and development. DNA must already contain ordered information. And this order had to be thought out by the Supreme Intelligence. Information cannot arise from chaos by chance. Information is always needed to produce other information, which means that it must come from the Intelligence. An intelligent being had to express His free will, have knowledge and have creativity to put things in order. Matter cannot produce information by itself.
But many will say, “But that Supreme Intelligence had to be created by an even more superior intelligence.” In this case, we again come to the concept of eternity, since we will reason infinitely in this way. This is the whole clue: Someone has to be infinite. Someone must have eternity in order to give a beginning. The God of the Bible is not subject to or dependent on the constraints of time, space, or anything else. Is matter eternal? No, it’s not. But even if it were, what is the meaning of its existence? Of course, science refutes the eternity of the existence of matter. Then it turns out that the Eternal Being, the God of the Bible, is the Source of the Infinite Intelligence that created everything in this Universe. We conclude that the Bible’s narrative is quite consistent with real scientific discoveries. This means that the Bible is not fiction or myth, much less its Author.
So why doesn’t the scientific world accept the idea of a Creator God? They don’t want anything to go beyond creation itself – nature. Therefore, it is necessary to create a system of philosophical views that refute the Eternal Almighty and All-Knowing God, which, in turn, leads humanity to strange conduct – perversions of good (wars, homosexuality, divorces, arguments, etc.). The Apostle Paul writes about this to us: “Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”(Rom. 1:24-32)
If someone accepts such a God, and that God is the God of the Bible, this means that we are His creation, and He has the right to establish certain rules by which He wants us to live. Such rules bring blessings to a person, but rebellion against such rules brings a curse on him. The man decides for himself what to choose. The Bible also says that humanity has rebelled against God the Creator. The result of that rebellion (called sin) was death, both physical and spiritual. However, a man’s soul will live forever either with God or without Him in the place of condemnation called hell, which will be thrown into the lake of fire after the Judgment Day. But God has given us deliverance from the sin of rebellion against His will, so that everyone who comes to Him with faith and fruits worthy of repentance can receive the remission of sins and eternal life with the Holy God.
Some people believe that it is unscientific to take the Word of God as a reliable source. However, in reality, the opposite is true. Faith in God is quite logical (although in many cases faith is completely illogical) and according to the latest scientific discoveries, it is quite justified. God breathed His spirit into man and he became a living soul. And this God-given spirit we call conscience. God created us as intelligent beings who can use simple logic to come to the conclusion that God exists. Of course, because of the fall of man and the curse of the Earth, we sometimes make mistakes in our logical reasoning. If our brains are just the product of some kind of mutation that depends on natural selection, then how can I determine what is true and what is wrong? Thus, evolutionists cannot even lay claim to such a thing as logic. Otherwise, it is contrary to their own views.
Only a biblical worldview can lead to true conclusions, since the Universe is subject to scientific physical laws established by God. And such laws exist to maintain order in everything, so that everything in the world interacts and functions correctly. Such laws do not change, they are established for the entire existence of the universe. Scripture itself tells us about this: “Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you set their dominion over the earth?” (Job 38:33). “Thus says the Lord, Who gives the sun for a light by day, the ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night, Who disturbs the sea, and its waves roar (The Lord of hosts is His name): “If those ordinances depart from before Me, says the Lord, then the seed of Israel shall also cease from being a nation before Me forever.”” (Jer. 31:35-36). ““Thus says the Lord: ‘If My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth, then I will cast away the descendants of Jacob and David My servant, so that I will not take any of his descendants to be rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will cause their captives to return, and will have mercy on them.’ ”” (Jer. 33: 25-26).
If the formation of the universe is just a matter of chance, why then does it obey logical, orderly laws? Why is there order in everything? And if everything around has been changing for millions, if not billions of years, why do these laws remain unchanged? The Bible gives an answer to this question: there are laws that ensure order in the Universe thanks to the Lawgiver, by which everything exists and everything keeps logical, consistent and intertwined with other laws. God is not changed. There is no more scientific explanation of our Universe than what is described in the Bible.
Does this mean that an unbeliever cannot think logically and do science? Of course not. But there is no constancy and consistency in his reasoning. In his case, consciously or unconsciously, there is a rebellion against the existence of God and His establishments.
So, we come to the question: who created God? The eternal God has always existed. He was not created by anyone. He is Who He is. He is timeless, since He Himself laid the foundation of time. In fact, He created time. Everything that had a beginning had to have the primary cause. And our Universe has a beginning, which means there must be the primary cause. But God cannot have a beginning, because He is outside of time and not dependent on it in any way. Therefore, God does not need the primary cause.
More than once I had the opportunity to talk with people who nevertheless assumed the existence of a Supreme Intelligence Who created the world and they even made concessions, admitting that, perhaps, this Supreme Intelligence is the God of the Bible. Then they asked the question: who created God? To this I answered: “Let’s imagine that someone created God, but someone had to create that God, and that One had to create another One, and so we can reason in this manner to infinity. Infinity! This is the whole point, that He, Who created everything, had to be Infinite, that is, eternal, having neither beginning nor end.” Reasoning in this way, one can come to the conclusion that belief in the basic provisions of the existence of God is quite logical. It’s just for us, living in this time frame, it is so hard to fully understand what eternity is. Here we are driven by faith in what the One who is the Father of eternity (or Everlasting Father as Jesus Himself was called by the prophet Isaiah) has conveyed to us. “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is (exists), and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Heb. 11:6). “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” (Matt. 7:8). This promise is not mere words, but the truth that will certainly come true if a person seeks Him with all his heart, mind, strength and all his being. He is the Living God.
However, one should not assume that Christianity is just blind faith. In fact, the opposite is true. It is evolutionists who have their own religion, which has no evidence, but in which they blindly believe.
In a few words, they believe that, for example, genetic information came about by random chance, which in itself is contrary to science.
Christ, through the Holy Spirit, opens the eyes of the blind, so that they can see that their faith is real, and not just a religious term. “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, (or “there is no excuse for such people”)” (Rom. 1:20).
Then how do we know that the God of the Bible is the True God?
The Bible is an authoritative Scripture on the basis that it was written by dozens of authors who lived at different times, in different places, but with the same revelation from the same God. Biblical authority is not only confirmed by the finds of ancient manuscripts that convey words with amazing accuracy, but also confirmed through scientific discoveries in such fields of science as archeology, biology, geology and astronomy. Therefore, everything else only depends on the acceptance of the Word of God and His true Author by faith. Only the God of the Bible teaches true morality, which is not only an individual opinion, but a generally accepted practice according to the spirit of life which we call conscience, breathed into man by the Creator. Only through His Word do we know what is good and what is evil, what is black and what is white. There is no contradiction in the Bible, even considering the fact that it was written over hundreds of years by many authors who were inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Many scientists from various fields of science have published and are publishing hundreds of books defending the reliability of the Bible and its right to claim the Creator’s revelation to mankind. It tells not only about who we are and where we come from, but also brings to us the Good News that everyone has a choice to spend eternity with our Lord if one takes Him as his Savior by asking Him into his heart. Therefore, the first step in relation to God is faith in Him and in His Word (the Bible).
“You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.” (Rev. 4:11).
“… and swore by Him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and the things that are in it, the earth and the things that are in it, and the sea and the things that are in it, that there should be delay no longer …” (Rev. 10:6 ).
